Program Description
The University of Idaho's MFA in creative writing program is a three-year course of study provides training in fiction, poetry, and/or creative nonfiction, as well as the chance to work in editing and publishing. Though students may apply in only one genre, once they begin the program they are encouraged to experiment in other genres as well. Students attend workshops and technique courses, as well as literature courses. A minimum of 54 credits and the completion of a creative thesis is required to graduate. Teaching assistantships are available to some students. MFA students have the opportunity to work with Fugue, the Pushcart Prize-winning literary magazine headquartered in the English Department, and every year the program hosts 3 to 5 writers of national significance to campus for a week-long visit.
