Program Description
New England College offers a low residency MFA in poetry. Twice a year, students come to the school's New Hampshire campus for a 10 day period to participate in workshops, seminars, lectures, one-on-one conference with mentors, and readings within a small and vibrant community of poets, where the student to faculty ratio is never higher than 5 to 1. The rest of the semester students continue their studies through correspondence. During the course of the semester, in addition to their creative work, students read up to 20 book of poetry and criticism, write 8 critical papers, and memorize 4 poems, which they will recite during their residencies. To graduate, students must complete a poetry manuscript and a critical thesis consisting of 15 pages.
