Program Description

The Department of English at Mills College offers a MFA in poetry or prose (fiction and nonfiction), as well as in Book Art & Creative Writing. The prose program consists of 40-45 students, and, though students concentrate in either fiction or nonfiction, they may take coursework in both genres. The poetry program consists of 30-35 students. All students must take workshop and classes in the theory and craft of literature, as well as complete a creative thesis. Most students take two years to complete the MFA. Mills offers both merit and need-based financial aid, but is unable to provide full funding to any student.
