Program Description
With its unique focus on a single genre and its strong professional emphasis on publishing, Goucher College’s MFA in Creative Nonfiction Program has gained a reputation as the best in its field. Its low-residency format makes it ideally suited to a writer’s development, providing students with one-on-one supervision of a faculty mentor while allowing them the freedom and solitude to develop the skills and discipline they need to succeed.
The 38-credit program normally takes two years to complete. It includes four semesters of off-campus work, an internship, two spring mini-residencies, two two-week summer residencies, and a partial residency the summer the student graduates. The summer residencies take place on campus and include writing workshops, lectures, seminars, and readings. Committed to preparing students for writing careers, the program brings in editors and agents to its residencies and sponsors annual field trips to New York where second-year students meet with some of publishing’s top editors and agents.
